2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Build: Dobinsons Lift and a Highline Fender Cut for 37s Without Tubbing
This 2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro came into Stellar Built for a lift and 37″ tire setup, and we were able to clear those 37″ tires without tubbing the firewall.
Usually, when you mount 37″ tires on a 5th Gen 4Runner or 3rd Gen Tacoma, firewall tubbing is mandatory. Let’s jump in and see how we got around it.
5th Gen guys know how hard it is to clear 37s; most builds get there by cutting a massive hole in the firewall and then welding in a concave plate.
Tomo wanted the fitment without cutting into the fender well too far, so we built this one around a Dobinsons 0.5″ to 3.5″ IMS suspension kit, SPC ball joints, then a very highline fender cuts and a C4 Fabrication high clearance fender line kit to make the clearance work.

Dobinsons Suspension
This 4Runner is sitting on the tried-and-true Dobinsons 0.5″ to 3.5″ IMS suspension kit with top hats on both sides and SPC ball joints, giving it the lift and geometry to run 37s without pushing the ride quality or wear patterns out of spec.
Highline Fender Cut
The real trick to this build is the highline fender cut in the front. Paired with C4 Fabrication high clearance fender liners, we were able to clear 37″ tires without fully tubbing the firewall. The C4 Fabrication high clearance tire fitment kit really is a killer mod for clearing bigger tires.
Nguyen Works Rear Bumper
On the rear end of the 4Runner, we installed a Nguyen Works plated low-profile rear bumper with the tree saver hoops, requiring a frame cut to fit while keeping the rear end tucked and functional. No swingouts on this one, just a super clean high clearance rear bumper that looks amazing on the 5G.
Wheels and Tires
We mounted some classic BFGoodrich KO2 tires in a 37×12.5R17LT size, giving this 4Runner a solid stance.
As always, we recommend alignment after suspension work, and a suspension and wheel retorque at the 500-mile mark after any lift install, and Stellar Built includes a retorque service with every kit we install.
