2021 Toyota Tacoma Long Bed TRD Off-Road Build: 74W Portals, JD Fabrication Pivot Kit and More

This 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road, Long Bed, came into Stellar Built for a full 74Weld portal axle installation with a few other upgrades here and there.
This Tacoma got the full treatment: 74W portal axles, a set of custom powder-coated KMC Impact beadlocks on 37″ Mickey Thompsons, a Stellar Built cab mount relocation kit that we manufacture in-house, pinch weld work to allow for proper tire clearance, and a JD Fabrication Pivot Kit to dial in clearance overall.

74Weld Portal Axles
The core of this build is a 74Weld portal axle install, giving it 4″ of usable ground clearance, drivetrain stress reduction, and a 22% gear reduction.
Wheels and Tires
Wheels are custom powder-coated KMC Impact beadlocks, wrapped in 37″ Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires for a stance that seriously sets this Tacoma apart.
Cab Mount Relocation and Fabrication
Portal axles change more than just ride height and because we typically add bigger tires when installing portals, it changes how tires actually fit in the wheel well. Because of that, we relocated the cab mounts and adjusted the pinch seam to make sure the tires cleared correctly. For our cab mount relocation kits, we use Energy Suspension bushings on the mounts for improved long-term durability.
Suspension and Steering
In addition to the JD Fabrication Pivot Kit, we installed new Apex tie rods. The picture above shows no Apex rods, but they went on at some point during the build.
Alignment and Fit
As always, we recommend alignment after suspension work, and a suspension and wheel retorque at the 500-mile mark after any lift install, and Stellar Built includes a retorque service with every kit we install.
