Eaton E-Locker Install & Maintenance Service Sacramento – Tested and Proven on Rubicon & Fordyce in Northern, CA

If you’re building a Toyota for hard wheeling throughout Northern California, a locking differential isn’t optional. It’s the difference between driving through a section and getting winched out. At Stellar Built in Sacramento, we install and service Eaton E-Lockers along with re-gear installation services across a wide range of Toyota and Lexus platforms, and after running them on 40″ tires through the Rubicon and Fordyce without a single failure, we’re confident recommending them to our customers.

What Is an Eaton E-Locker?

The Eaton E-Locker is an electrically actuated locking differential. When engaged, it locks both wheels on an axle to rotate at the same speed, giving you full traction regardless of surface conditions. Flip a switch, and you’re locked; flip it back, and you’re back to open differential behavior for normal driving. No compressor, no air lines, no waiting for pressure to build. E-lockers are easy to use,

E-Locker vs. Air Locker; Which One Is Right for You?

Air lockers like the ARB have a reputation for being the strongest option available, and that reputation is earned. But strength on paper doesn’t always translate to the right choice for every build or every budget.

Here’s how they compare:

Air lockers require a dedicated on-board air compressor, air lines routed through the vehicle, and fittings at each diff. That’s more parts, more potential failure points, and a longer installation. E-Lockers run off your existing electrical system. Installation is cleaner, faster, and typically less expensive, which means more budget left for the rest of your build.

On strength:

Air lockers do have an edge in extremely high-load applications. Let’s say you’re building a crawler on 42″ tires and pushing snow loads consistently locked front and rear… for that use-case, you would want an ARB air locker. They’re stronger for sure. But the gap is smaller than most people assume. We’ve run Eaton E-Lockers on rigs pushing 40″ tires through some of the hardest terrain in Northern California, including the Rubicon Trail and Fordyce, and we have yet to blow one. For the vast majority of Toyota builds, E-Lockers are more than strong enough for the terrain they’ll see.

If you’re building a dedicated race truck or planning to stress a locker beyond what most wheelers ever encounter, an air locker conversation makes sense. For everyone else, the E-Locker delivers proven performance with a simpler, faster install.

Tested on the Rubicon and Fordyce

We don’t just install these; we run them on our personal trucks.

We have put Eaton E-Lockers through the Rubicon Trail and Fordyce on 40″ tires, some of the most challenging off-road trails the Sierra Nevada has to offer. Zero failures. Proving these lockers is why we’ve made E-Locker installation a core part of what we offer here at the shop. We wouldn’t put our name on a product we hadn’t tested ourselves under real conditions.

Rubicon Portal Party

Recently, we took about seven pretty built Toyota trucks on Portals, all with Eaton E-lockers through the Rubicon and tested sections like Soup Bowl, Little Sluice, Big Sluice, Cadillac Hill, and many others. Not one Toyota had a problem getting through these sections with its Eaton locker engaged. We install these lockers because we believe in them. We’ve seen them perform in person on back-to-back trucks, and they flat-out get the job done.

Vehicle Compatibility

Eaton E-Lockers are available for a wide range of Toyota and Lexus platforms. Stellar Built installs and services them on the following:

Current and recent platforms: Toyota 4Runner (5th Gen), Lexus GX 460, Lexus GX 550, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner (6th Gen), Toyota Tacoma (4th Gen), Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series.

Legacy platforms: Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series, earlier 4Runner and Tacoma generations, like the 5th Gen 4Runner and 3rd Gen Taco.

If your Toyota or Lexus truck isn’t listed, reach out. Fitment options expand regularly, and we can confirm availability for your specific axle configuration.

Faster Installation

Air lockers tend to cost a bit more because it takes longer. More parts and more components = more labor.

Because E-Lockers tap into your existing electrical system rather than requiring a full air system build-out, installation is way faster than a comparable air locker setup. That means less time on the lift and a lower overall labor cost.

For customers looking for a locker and/or re-gear on a timeline or a budget, or both, the e-locker is a win.

FAQs

Do you install Eaton E-Lockers in Sacramento?

Yes. Stellar Built installs and services Eaton E-Lockers at our fabrication shop in North Sacramento. We work with customers throughout Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Loomis, and Lincoln; as well as those traveling in from Vacaville, Fairfield, and throughout the Bay Area.

How long does an Eaton E-Locker installation take compared to an air locker?

Eaton E-Locker installation is typically faster than an air locker because it taps into your existing electrical system rather than requiring a compressor, air lines, and fittings to be routed through the vehicle. Fewer components means less labor time and a lower overall installation cost.

Can you install an Eaton E-Locker at the same time as a re-gear?

Yes, and it’s one of the most efficient ways to do it. Since the axle is already apart during a re-gear, combining the E-Locker installation saves time and labor cost. Stellar Built offers both re-gear and E-Locker installation services and can bundle them into a single appointment.

Do you service or repair existing Eaton E-Lockers?

Yes. In addition to new installations, Stellar Built services and repairs existing Eaton E-Lockers. Whether you’re dealing with engagement issues, wear, or need a full inspection after hard trail use, bring it in and we’ll sort it out.
