Ford Bronco Build: 74W Portals, ICON Coilovers, 37s and More

This might be one of the coolest Bronco builds to roll through the shop. I know it’s simple, but the 2-Door Bronco on portals with 37″ tires… the stance is absolutely perfect on this build.

We built this Bronco around a set of 74Weld portals, ICON coilovers, 37″ tires on 74 Method wheels, and a few other mods.

Not many shops specialize in Portal Axles for multiple vehicle platforms, but we do. Whether you have a Jeep, Toyota, or a 2-door Bronco like this one here, you can trust that your rig is in the best hands possible at Stellar Built in Sacramento.

If you have any questions about this Bronco or your Bronco build specifically, give us a call anytime. We’re always around.

Happy to chat through some mods for your build.

74Weld Portal Axles

The center of this Bronco is a set of 74Weld portal axles, giving this Bronco 4″ of usable ground clearance lift, improved drivetrain strength for technical terrain, and a 22% gear reduction at each hub.

  • 3.73 Ratio: Standard on base/lower trims with automatic transmissions (and standard on Badlands trim).
  • 4.27 Ratio: Higher-trimmed automatic transmission Broncos.
  • 4.46 Ratio: Locked automatic transmission setups or standard with certain mid-tier packages.
  • 4.70 Ratio: Manual-transmission models and the heavy-duty Sasquatch Package.

To calculate the output ratio on a Bronco with portals, you just multiply the 22% reduction by the factory gearing ratio. Let’s say you have a 3.73 gear ratio.

Just multiply 1.22 (22% reduction) X 3.73 = 4.55 final output drive.

Portals are great because it allows you to lift your Bronco without having to re-gear for bigger tires.

To gain some additional travel from the IFS, we installed ICON coilovers along with Foutz Billet upper control arms, keeping the geometry dialed in and the ride composed both on the trail and on the highway.

Wheels and Tires

Wheels are 74W Methods (Forged 74W207 Wheel – 17×8 6×5.5 +45), wrapped in 37″ Open Country RT tires for a stance that matches the extra clearance from the portals.

Armor

We also added Rockslide Engineering rock sliders to protect the rockers on technical terrain.

As always, we recommend alignment after suspension work, and a suspension and wheel retorque at the 500-mile mark after any lift install, and Stellar Built includes a retorque service with every kit we install.
